2010 FALL GRANT RECIPIENTS

The LeRoi Community Foundation was pleased to support the following organizations during its Fall Grant Cycle.

Beaver Valley Manor Society

$2500 for “Automatic Fire Sprinkling System”

Built over thirty years ago, the building still lacks an automatic fire sprinkler system to protect residents in case of fire.  Installing such as system is a top priority for the society’s board of directors.

A donation from the Kootenay Savings Community Foundation made this grant possible.

Bird Emergency and Kare Society (BEAKS)

$1000 for “Clean Air Project”

“The clean air project is part of the renovation of the aviaries and offices of Beaks, the only wild bird rehabilitation center in the Kootenays…Cleaner air will improve our bird recovery rate and return more birds to their natural environment.” (Karen Yamazaki)

A grant from the “JL Crowe Grad Fund “and a donation from Kootenay Savings Community Foundation support this project.

Career Development Services (an agency governed by the Trail Association for Community Living)

$1000 for “User Friendly Promotional Materials”

This project will assist clients of varying abilities, their families, and others to access information about the services available.

A donation from the Kootenay Savings Community Foundation made this grant possible.

Glenmerry Parent Advisory Council

$2500 for “Glenmerry Community Playground Project

This project will provide a universally accessible community playground, the first of its type in the West Kootenays. “The playground will emphasize the educational benefits of play, healthy living, physical fitness, large and small motor development, sensory perception, inclusion, multi-age interaction, social skills, therapeutic benefits and environmental stewardship.” (Sheryl Moon)

Grants from  “The Harry Stanton Fund” and “The Sheila Rogers and Una ffrench Fund,” and a donation from the Kootenay Savings Community Foundation support this project.

Kootenay Robusters Dragon Boat Team

$1000 for “Replacement of Team Life Jackets”

Established ten years ago to support breast cancer survivors, to raise awareness of breast cancer and to demonstrate that breast cancer can be overcome, the team’s ten year old lifejackets need replacing.

A grant from “The Edie and Tom McEwan Fund” and a donation from Kootenay Savings Community Fund support this project.

Rossland Historical Museum and Archives

$1500 for “Artifact Database Entry”

This project will address the need to enter a backlog of cataloged artifacts and will enable the purchase of an external hard drive to safely back up entries.

This project is supported with grants from “The Nelson and District Credit Union: Rossland Branch Fund” and “The Will Exner Fund” and a donation from the Kootenay Savings Community Foundation.

Trail Gymnastics Society

$2600 for “Crank Beam Project”

This project will see the replacement of an aging beam that no longer meets safety standards.

This projected is supported with a grant from “The BC Winter Games Legacy Fund,” and a donation from the Kootenay Savings Community Foundation.
