Nelson & District Credit Union (NDCU) is pleased to announce financial support for the LeRoi Community Foundation in the form of a $20,000 contribution, in celebration of their 60th anniversary, benefiting the community of Rossland.

Brian Poch, Rossland Branch Manager of NDCU is also a dedicated volunteer board member for the LeRoi Foundation. Brian notes that “Credit unions have a history of providing an alternative to banks by advocating equality, equity and mutual self-help. They are places where people work together to achieve a better life for themselves and their families, thereby creating strong communities.”

Since 1950 Nelson & District Credit Union has grown over the years from a modest beginning to a robust community-based financial co-operative. After the first year of operations, the cash-box had a net profit of $21.77. In 2000 the Community Investment Program was formed and through it over $2,300,000 has been given to local non-profit initiatives, including this contribution to the community of Rossland.

“What we find so appealing about being part of the foundation is that the funds we invest keep on working year after year. Our contribution is pooled with other funds and the interest that these funds generate is what gets distributed to important community projects. There is a reason we say Logically. Locally,” states Doug Stoddart, CEO.

“The Nelson & District Credit Union-Rossland Fund”, which currently sits close to $50,000, is designated to support the community and interest proceeds are dispersed annually to Rossland-based, not-for-profit organizations.
“We are very excited to be adding to our Rossland fund with this donation from the members of NDCU,” shares Adam Monteith, Leroi Foundation Chair. “The continuing strength of our communities will always be as a result of the dedication, generosity and innovation provided by strong community partners like Nelson & District Credit Union.”

Founded in 2005 the LeRoi Community Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the betterment of the Greater Trail area through a network of donors. Their goal is to support charitable endeavours in the Greater Trail area through funds donated and held in perpetuity with expectancies of more than $1,000,000.
